Experiencing the Love of God

  • The Marriage Relationship

Throughout Scripture God continually refers to the marriage and family relationship as a natural means to express and explain His love for us. This book will examine in the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek many Biblical references to marriage and the family which express the heart of God.

  • The Heart of God

As I continue my journey to the heart of God I find that the closer I get to the His heart the more I am referencing the marriage and family relationship and the more I realize how the breakdown of the home and family is truly breaking the heart of God.

  • Our Relationship With God

When we accept Jesus as our personal Savior that begins our betrothal period of learning to love this God who gave His Son so He could have an intimate relationship with us.

    • CHAPTER 1 – THE FULLNESS OF JOY - This chapter does an in-depth study of key Hebrew words in Psalms 16:11 and the joy that is found in a marriage relationship compared to the joy in a relationship with God.
    • CHAPTER 2 - GOD IS TAKING A RISK - This chapter does a study of Song of Solomon 4:9 examining from the Hebrew the risks of love and the fact that God takes the same risk when he chooses to love us.
    • CHAPTER 3 - BETROTHED TO JESUS - This is a study of Hosea 2:21 and explains the ancient Jewish concept of a betrothal and likens it to the relationship that God desires with us.
    • CHAPTER 4 - A DATE NIGHT WITH JESUS - A Hebraic study is done on Psalms 17:3 explaining how observing the Sabbath should be like a married couple having a date night once a week with each other.
    • CHAPTER 5 – HE WILL REST IN HIS LOVE - A study of keywords from Zephaniah 3:17 showing that God loves to be in love just as a young couple loves to be in love.
    • CHAPTER 6 - THE UNFAITHFUL LOVER - In a Hebraic examination of Exodus 20:3 we discover that God feels much the same way when we seek the attention of other gods as a wife feels if her husband seeks the attention of other women.
    • CHAPTER 7 – A GOOD KIND OF SELFISHNESS - An examination in the original Hebrew of Proverbs 16:4 reveals that God gets a special joy in making us happy just as a husband or wife receives a special joy in making their mate happy. An argument is made that
    • CHAPTER 8 - AND HE GAVE TO MOSES HIS BRIDE - We find that when we examine Exodus 31:18 in the Hebrew that the concept of being a bride to God is found even in some of the earliest records.
    • CHAPTER 9 - BELOVED OF FRIEND - When viewed in the original Hebrew Hosea 3:1 reveals to us that love for both a mate and God is something that does not happen overnight but is a process of growth over a period of time.
    • CHAPTER 10 – BRIBING GOD - By looking at Malachi 3:13-14 in the Hebrew we begin to see how our church attendance, tithing, Bible study and prayer can be nothing more than a bribe to get God to bless us and is as ridiculous as a husband bringing flowers
    • CHAPTER 11 – ARE WE THE BRIDE OR GROOM? - This chapter examines Isaiah 62:5 in the original language to explore the idea that we are not only the bride of Christ, but a husband as well. As a husband seeks to protect the heart of his wife so too we seek
    • CHAPTER 12 – BRINGING PLEASURE TO GOD - Psalms 90:16-17 in the original language suggest to us that just as a husband and wife are capable of bringing pleasure to each other, so too can God bring pleasure to us and us to Him.
    • CHAPTER 13 – CAPTIVE TO GOD’S HEART - 65 Jeremiah 3:10 suggests something in the Hebrew that we often do not consider in our relationship to God. We are really held captive to God as prisoner. Yet it is a captivity that we have no desire to escape.
    • CHAPTER 14 – CLEAVE TO THE LORD - Genesis 2:24 tells us that a man is to cleave to his wife and then in Deuteronomy 4:4 we are instructed to cleave to God. It is the same word devekut.
    • CHAPTER 15 - DELIGHTING IN GOD - Psalm 37:3-4 is familiar to us all, delighting ourselves in the Lord will give us xi the desires of our hearts. Yet in a love relationship that tends to take on a different meaning.
    • CHAPTER 16 – HE WILL TAKE US - Psalms 18:16: “He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters.” The word in Hebrew for “he took me” is the same word used when a man declares, “I am taking myself a wife.”
    • CHAPTER 17 – FATHER - Ok, we want God to be a father and cringe at the idea of giving him feminine characteristics, despite the fact that he created a woman just as much in His image as a man.
    • CHAPTER 18 – GIVING GOD A HUG - If a husband and wife are not in the habit of giving each other a hug, that relationship is going to suffer. Yet, if we are betrothed or married to God should not God be giving us a hug and we giving Him a hug?
    • CHAPTER 19 – GOD LONGS TO SHARE HIS HEART - We Christians are very good at pouring our hearts out to God. Yet what would a marriage relationship be like if just the wife poured out her heart to her husband but the husband never shared his heart with he
    • CHAPTER 20 – GOD WANTS TO GIVE YOU A KISS - We watch a movie where a young man takes his lover in his arms and gives her a passionate kiss. Yet, to suggest that the God of the Universe would take us in his arms and give us a kiss sounds almost creepy.
    • CHAPTER 21 – WHEN HAROLD ABANDONED HIS DAISY - Some people feel as if God has abandoned them. Harold may have felt he abandoned his Daisy, but his Daisy knew otherwise.
    • CHAPTER 22 – SAMSON SPOKE HIS HEART - We all know from Sunday School why Samson lost his strength, it was because Delilah cut his hair. That is not what the Bible says, however. He began to lose his strength when she afflicted him.
    • CHAPTER 23 – A TRYSTING PLACE - A husband and wife need a trysting place, a place where they can go off alone and not be disturbed. A place where they can freely express their love to each other without fear of being interrupted or spied upon.
    • CHAPTER 24 – KNOWING GOD’S THOUGHTS - We wonder how we can hear the voice of God let alone know His thoughts as expressed in Isaiah 55:8. Well, consider an old married couple who have been married for many years. They can almost read each other’s mind
    • CHAPTER 25 – GOD’S TWINKIE - We have all seen them, the Twinkies, that teenage guy and his girlfriend leaving classes, holding hands, sharing an earbud, listening to their song, staring in each other’s eyes.
    • CHAPTER 26 - LOVE (CHAV, RACHAM) - John 3:16 tells us God loves the world. John 21:20 tells us of the disciple whom Jesus loved. In the Greek both words for love are agape. Yet, in the Aramaic, there are two different words used for love.
    • CHAPTER 27 – JEALOUSY - Oh yes, jealousy, as Shakespeare said it is the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds upon. Actually, during Shakespeare’s day, he was quite a radical to suggest such a thing about jealousy.
    • CHAPTER 28 – MAN LAYING WITH A MEMORY - Alright, do I have to bring homosexuality into this book? Well, if I am to address the Hebrew secondary meanings of Leviticus 20:13 I fear I must.
    • CHAPTER 29 – SWEET FORBIDDEN LOVE - We know that God gave Adam and Eve forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden and the enemy persuaded them to eat of it. Yet, do you realize that the enemy also has his forbidden fruit that he will not allow God to touch?
    • CHAPTER 30 – TENDER EYES THE REJECTED LOVER - I learned in Bible College and Seminary that Leah was crossed eyed or had some disfigurement which is why Jacob was not attracted to her. However, the Talmud and the Hebrew teach something much different.
    • CHAPTER 31 – THE MOST PRECIOUS THING - 126 Job 13:15 is a very popular verse but do we really know what it means? Check it out in the Hebrew and you will begin to realize what the most precious thing is.
